Label Profile: Fenology Records
Fenology RecordsHailing from Germany, the Fenology label was set up mid 2003 as a follow-up to the successful Clubbgroove Records. Woody van Eyden, Fenology’s Managing Director, thought it was time to head in a new direction and he therefore created a sparkling new brand in trance business. From their first release on, it has become clear that Fenology’s main goal is to bring quality over quantity. Having brought out ten excellent releases in two years, the Fenology team has shown that it is possible to keep trance junkies entertained with a limited number of quality releases. Read on to find out more....

Artists & Releases
The first release on Fenology caused quite a stir throughout the whole trance scene when promos came out. It was just labeled Fenology – Unfinished Symphony, but was picked up instantly by big jocks like Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Blank & Jones and more. Some people spoke of it being the track of the year, and all the reviewers agreed on the amazing feeling this record brought forward. The ‘secret’ producer was of course Woody van Eyden, who made a beauty of an Original Mix backed with remixes by Funaki and Arc In The Sky.

Fenology’s second, sixth and tenth release are all made by Alex M.O.R.P.H., the man who is responsible for astonishing remixes on the label as well. His tunes Flaming Clouds, Unification and New Harvest were all hammered to infinity by every thinkable trance DJ, and his remixes for Scirocco – Scirocco [FEN-003], Mindcrusher – Vision 05 [FEN-008] and Koris vs. DJule – Sense Of Time [FEN-009] were all received with a lot of praising by just about everyone. After the release of the self titled Scirocco tune, Woody attracted a relatively new producer duo to the Fenology stable: Moonrush. They provided Risky Business, a typical uplifting trance bomb with a ferocious remix by Arc In The Sky. Of course, Woody himself was not sitting still in the meantime. He created a vocal track together with Susanne Webb called The 1, which had an interesting remix package on vinyl 2.

A few months after the vinyl release of Alex M.O.R.P.H.’s Unfication, another storming creation by Woody van Eyden came and conquered tranceland: SI-N+R-JE. Again with a somewhat classical influenced breakdown, this served as the peaktime bomb in many sets. Release number 8 introduced us the Mindcrusher guise, a project by Woody van Eyden and RuDee. Relying on its superbly infectious main hook, this was again a great success and landed in lots of record boxes. The duo Koris Vs. DJule, formed by Jean-Paul Dinh & Julien Matthey, is responsible for Sense Of Time, a more progressively tipped trancer with banging remixes by M.O.R.P.H. Vs. Scirocco and Ferrin & Low. Fenology’s anniversary tenth release was a bomb from Alex M.O.R.P.H., called New Harvest. This tune was supported by nearly all jocks over the globe and also got remixes by Human Blue, Talla 2XLC and Mike Shiver. Another big track was released in june 2006. Ferrin & Low – Breeze, which was supported by Above & Beyond and other important DJs.

The Future
More interesting stuff is definitely coming up in the very near future. What to think of releases from B.R.U.N.I., Mallorca Lee & David Forbes or another big vinyl from Moonrush ?

Besides that, Fenology will start to release exclusive remixes online, as well as digital only releases.

Judging from their impressive back catalogue, it can be said that Fenology is one of today’s most consistent trance labels. They always try to let their tracks ooze a certain amount of distinct quality, which is a thing that will definitely be accentuated even more in the future !
