Joop - "On Top Of Things / Prominent" Review

With his single ‘The Future’ becoming the anthem for the world’s largest Trance event, Trance Energy, Joop stormed the dance charts and even the Dutch single chart earlier this year. Now the friendly Joop boy returns with a cracking 2-tracker, co-produced by the-man-that-never-sleeps, Leon Bolier. Both tunes are featured on his forthcoming mix compilations ‘High Contrast presents Joop’ which is due for release end of this month and with already having full support from maestro’s Tiësto and Armin van Buuren, it seems mr. Joop has another big room contender on his hands! Read on for more details about this tune....

TheTranceArena.com's verdict:

Joop - "Prominent" (Original Mix): Joop's last track was the massive "The Future", which was caned by all of the leading Trance DJ's and instantly hit classic status. This time around, he's back with his latest tune, "Prominent". This track kicks off with a ferocious, Techy bassline which slowly climbs with the aid of hi-hats and percussion. As the intro builds, a digital vocal sample is introduced along with a stabbing synth and a few floaty chords which lead all the way to the breakdown. The breakdown starts off quite dark and dramatic, before moving towards a moodier side with a stabbing dark synth. The main melody kicks back in with a catchy, looping sample which instantly sticks in your head - just like "The Future" did - however, I felt that this track wasn't anywhere near as good as that tune. I felt that this tune didn't have as much guts to it, and lacked that little something to really set it off and make it stand out. A nice tune, but not as powerful and attention-grabbing as "The Future", which, in my opinion, is still Joops best tune so far. 7/10

Joop - "Prominent" (Leon Bolier Remix): The Leon Bolier remix starts off with a pounding bassline which is accompanied with a snare, kick drum and light Trancey chord. As the intro progresses, the percussion becomes more noticeable. Stabbing chords sweep in and out, as a light Trancey melody starts to creep into play. Again the breakdown is quite moody, although not quite as dark. Like the original mix, I felt that this remix didn't really stand out as being too powerful. It didn't have any catchy appeal, the breakdown wasn't that appealing, and I just feel that it didn't really go anywhere. A nice alternative to the Original mix, but not quite as appealing. 7/10

Joop - "On Top Of Things": This track is my favourite of this three-part package. The bassline builds with lots of drive and energy, and it really grabs your attention right from the start. The intro is very short, and leads you straight to the first breakdown, which is a floaty, dreamy affair! From the first breakdown, the bassline slowly creeps back into play in the background, before winding up to form the main melody. The second breakdown is very catchy with a looping, clarinet-like, instrumental synth. The bassline diverts to a more funkier vibe during the clarinet-driven part, before taking a twist back towards a more harder, Techier vibe. This track saves this package - it has guts, energy, and a catchy melody that will stick in your head for hours after you've heard it. Again, nowhere near as good as "The Future", but it's still a great track. 8/10
