A/B Project - "Misconceptions" ReviewAfter the massive success with Eternal Optimism, Steve Anderson & Chris Breame are back in full force under their A/B Project guise on Mondo Records. The next single is without question another club smash, Misconceptions features the key production skills we’ve come to expect from the boys and contains their trademark melody lines. The tune holds the attention with strong deep hard hitting moments interweaved with lush euphoric chord progressions and energetic riffs. Read on for more details about this tune....

First up on remix duties is Ehren Stowers, the Trance Generation resident is slowly building up steam in the production market. Working along side the likes of Corderoy and having a string of releases under his belt he is definitely becoming a force to reckon with. Ehrens mix is a big room trance work out that will satisfy even the most demanding trance floor, in a word ‘massive’

Next in line is Tom Colontonio who’s no stranger to gaining a massive following on his productions, previous tracks from Tom have had immense support from the likes of Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren. With Misconceptions Tom doesn’t fail to deliver and provides an absolutely brilliant remix with excellent key programming that will shake any dance floor it’s dropped on.

Last in the package but by no means least is a marvelously structured remix from David Biczok (Soliquid) David’s Walking on Clouds remix takes the track in a totally different direction, his attention to detail is second to none and this combined with interesting rhythms and unique sounds provides a truly delightful journey through out.

TheTranceArena.com's verdict:

"Misconceptions" (Original Mix): The original mix is the first of a four-part package, and starts off on a 'moody' vibe. A tough bassline kicks things off, with a punchy kick drum and dark synths in the background which gradually progress, building up towards the melody. The melody itself is Trance at its finest - a long emotional breakdown with light chords for the perfect hands-in-the-air moment. Towards the end of the breakdown, the direction changes towards a darker, moodier sound - before kicking back in with all guns blazing with the pounding bassline! A very nice Trancer which would sound right at home in a Matt Hardwick set. It combines both a darker side, but with lighter elements too. 8/10

"Misconceptions" (Ehren Stowers Remix): This remix is equally as banging and energetic as the Original Mix. The main difference in this remix is that the moodier, darker edge has been replaced with a lighter, more melodic sound similar to that of Aly & Fila. This version has a couple of smaller breakdowns which help to break the tune up more, and also help to take out some of the energy - resulting in more hands-in-the-air moments instead. Its a shame this remix has come out so late in the year because I could imagine this working really well at all of the festivals. A very nice remix that has been very well produced. This remix would sound perfect in a Dave Pearce or Menno de Jong set - and possibly even the tail-end of an Above & beyond set! 8/10

"Misconceptions" (Tom Colontonio Remix): This, in my opinion, is the best of the bunch. Tom Colontonio has done a supurb job with this. He's combined a powerful bassline, driving synths, and a fantastic breakdown to produce a stunner of a remix! The intro is fairly long, which allows for a great, long, creative, mixing opportunity. The breakdown doesn't contain as much of the original elements as the previous two mixes - but the bassline and main melody do most of the work in this version instead. Its pacey, banging, and with plenty of guts - just like modern day Trance should be. Certain aspects of this remix reminds me of Darren Tate's sound - whilst other remind me of the Discover Records sound - and with both of those being the best you could associate with Trance, then that can only be a compliment! This would work very well in a peak-time Armin van Buuren set, a Sean Tyas set, or a Jon O'Bir set. Fantastic remix! 9/10

"Misconceptions" (Soliquid Walking On Clouds Remix): This remix is very downtempo, very dark and proggy, and offers something completely different from the other three mixes. It plods along at a much slower pace - which i'd guess at being around the 130bpm mark - making it perhaps more suited to a very early warm-up set, or perhaps even a Housier-sounding set. I could imagine Gavyn Mytchel opening a warm-up set at Turnmills with this - but it definately wouldn't suit a peak-time Trance set. In all honesty, I didn't really feel this remix - I found it a bit slow, and didn't think it really built up to anything too exciting. Definately the weaker remix of an otherwise good package. 6/10
