BenJoss has come up with this idea, and I think its a great one, so here goes....
1998+ saw Trance have its best ever years (particularly between 1998-2000), so to celebrate ten years since that golden era, TheTranceArena.com is going to have a whole year dedicated to the last ten years of Trance.
Each month, we're going to run a competition where members post mixes featuring trance tunes from the last 10 years ONLY (ie, your mix has to contain a selection of tunes from 1998-2008 - not all recent tunes).
Each month, a winner of the best mix will be chosen, and they'll win £5. At the end of the year, all of the 12 winners will go into a draw to win a first prize of £25, and the runner up will win £10's worth of MP3 downloads (to be confirmed - if not, an alternative prize will be found). I'll also throw in a few other incentives each month such as free album's, clubbing tickets, etc!
Also, to celebrate ten years of Trance, i'll be interviewing a range of DJ's to ask their thoughts of their favourite tunes from the last ten years, how things have changed between 1998 to 2008, and how their careers have changed over the last decade too.
I'll be asking DJ's that were just breaking through at the start of 1998 (Armin, Ferry Corsten, etc) - and i'll also be interviewing DJ's that were at the peak of their careers in 1998 too (Judge Jules, John Kelly, etc).
I'm also going to try to track down some producers that were really big around that time, but have since vanished (Stretch & Vern, Da Hool, etc)
If anyone else has any other ideas, feel free to reply to this thread
This all kicks off in January 2008, so dig out your old vinyls, brush the dust off, and practice a few retro mixes to win yourself some goodies.
Tell your mates too, and get them to register on the site. Not only does it give them a chance to dig out their classics, but it also gives them the opportunity to win some prizes, and also listen to mixes in the Mix Vault.
Tha reminds me, i'm going to ask a few DJ's if they'll record some special retro mixes exclusively for the Mix Vault
I'm pretty sure i've grasped Ben's idea correctly, but if i've got my knickers in a twist with regards to the mix idea, then i' sure Ben will be happy to run through his idea for us
